The Ki-Be Bears continue to build momentum this offseason, as student-athletes wrapped up an eight-week Phase 1 training cycle defined by commitment, growth, and a clear shift in culture.
What took place inside the weight room was more than strength development—it was a statement. A statement about who this team is becoming.
Leading that charge was Leon Mitchell, who earned Phase 1 MVP honors after setting the tone for the entire program. Acevedo’s approach was simple but powerful: show up every day and go to work. Alongside him, Damian Acevedo matched that standard, as both athletes finished the program with 100% attendance, establishing the level of consistency expected moving forward .
That consistency spread throughout the program. Ki-Be averaged 18 athletes per session, with a peak of 24 athletes on its most attended day—numbers that reflect a growing belief in the process and pride in the work being done .
And that work showed up in a major way.
Ten Bears earned their place in the program’s 1000 lb Club, a milestone that represents the combined total of bench press, squat, and deadlift—an achievement that can only be reached through discipline, toughness, and relentless effort:
- Leon Mitchell (1360)
- Kaleb Cook (1250)
- Aiden Leavitt (1165)
- Hayden Flores (1120)
- Aaden Mendoza (1100)
- Jonathan Aguilar (1090)
- Lionel Mora Llerenas (1070)
- Fernando Pedroza (1070)
- Dalton Sherman (1040)
- Quincy Jones (1000)
Each name represents a standard. Each total represents hours of unseen work.
Beyond the numbers, Phase 1 was defined by grit. Athletes like Micah Moore, Fernando Pedroza, Hayden Flores, Quincy Jones, and Dalton Sherman consistently leaned into the difficulty of the program, pushing themselves to improve and reinforcing the mindset being built within the team.
The impact of the program was also felt through the commitment and growth of Ki-Be’s young ladies. Lexy Calderon, Keemya Huerta, Keila Dominguez, Savannah De La Rosa, Kaydence Phipps, and Annabella Scocozzo brought energy, consistency, and resilience to the weight room, playing a vital role in the culture that continues to take shape .
Their presence, and their progress, continue to raise the standard for everyone.
As the Bears close Phase 1, the foundation has been firmly established. Strength has been built. Expectations have been raised.
Now, the program turns its attention to Phase 2, where conditioning, agility, and speed will be introduced to further challenge and develop this group.
If Phase 1 proved anything, it’s this:
Ki-Be athletes aren’t just preparing for a season… They’re building something bigger.
A culture rooted in accountability.
A standard defined by effort.
A team committed to getting better every single day.
1Family; 1% Better.
